Classes meet for two semesters annually (approximately 12 weeks each) and are held on Mondays from September to May. Families select from the schedule the five, 55 minute classes that will make up their TLC day.
The number and variety of classes offered at TLC depends on the contributions of our member families. Classes that have been offered in the past include: Archery, Science Fiction/Fantasy Literature Class, Writer's Roundtable, Karate, Teen Scene, Science, Photography, Brain Games, Kid Biz, Recorder, Spanish, Drama, Ecosystems, Fiber Arts, Draw-Write-Now, Read-Sing-Dance, Emergent Readers, Math K-2, Green Crafts, Harlem Renaissance, Ballroom, Cooking, Cursive, Public Speaking and many more.
Please see our Current Class Schedule and Class Descriptions pages for more information on current class offerings.
Our program requires full parent participation. When parents come with their children, they are expected to remain at TLC the entire time. They are not required to be present in their child's classroom, but they must be on the premises. All parents must assume a co-op role. Teaching, or assisting a teacher, hall helpers, morning set-up helpers, and playground site coordinator are just a few of the volunteer positions parents can fill. We also have a number of committees that need participants.
For parents, our group is about realizing and developing talents, networking, learning about and sharing curriculum, and supporting each other.
For teens, we offer many teen activities. Our teens have built ride-on hovercrafts, go-karts, and a zip line. They have also created a who-done-it mystery video and a claymation video. Teens also are given the opportunity to teach classes at TLC!
The children have an opportunity to perform and/or display their work at a Showcase which is held at the end of each semester. Families are also able to download a free yearbook at the end of the school year which contains many pictures of the year's activities.
